The most memorable Ident that I can think of is the BBC Ident mainly because of characters actions during the 10 second clip i would say that the characters are what makes the clip and I would say that i would associate these characters with that channel.

I agree with you, I really enjoyed the BBC idents, as you can identify with the character. Have you decided which programme you are going to design an ident for yet?
